My new series of abstract works came out of two sources.  The first is my venture into encaustic techniques which has allowed me to be looser and bolder in my art work and I have taken that risk onto canvas.  The second was the base. I thought I would practice my skills on canvases that I wanted to reuse.  This meant that if it did not work it would not be an expensive mistake.  What I found consequently was that the original artwork on the canvas would become the foundation and inspiration of my abstract work.  The color, texture and direction of the old work would dictate how I would begin and it would influence my  progression.  In all my abstract paintings the original work peeks through creating a layer that gives aded mystery and contrast.  The color palettes in each work are tight but the different hues crash and merge into each other creating a momentum of motion.

My aim is for people to get lost in the layers of the works.  For their eyes to keep moving around the paintings, to indulge in the colors and the textures and to feel something.

The titles of the paintings are tongue in cheek.  Abstract work can often create adverse reactions in the public.  I have been guilty of it myself.  I have learnt that creating abstract work is  not easy.  it takes a lot of reflection to make something that ‘works’ and this understanding cannot be summed up in a throw away comment that many a viewer may make.
